Plant Properties: A Glossary

Aromatherapy treatments using essential oils can provide a whole range of benefits. They can help with many common disorders in a holistic way. Essential oils, like other plant remedies, have a long tradition of providing a variety of therapeutic benefits. Many of these benefits have recently been confirmed by modern scientific research.

Aromatherapy treatments have psycho-therapeutic benefits as well as affecting the physical state of the body. When the essential oils are used, either through massage, in a bath or by inhalation, the aroma will influence the psyche while the oils work on the tissues and organs of the body.

Physiologically, the essential oils have an influence on the functions of the organs and tissues as well as on the nervous system controlling the organs and tissues. They also have hormone-like actions and can help to regulate the endocrine system. Additionally, the oils have both antiseptic and antimicrobial actions, as well as the ability to stimulate the immune system to function more actively.

Aromatherapy can benefit everyone, from babies to children, men, women and the elderly; helping in sickness and preventing disease. Regular treatments with essential oils will contribute to a dramatic improvement in general health and well-begin, increasing vitality and giving people healthy-looking skin.
